Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications have been recognized to have potential for various purposes including in the medical sector. Many innovative use cases of AI in healthcare have been suggested and these are aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) as the new era of digitization that impacted many industries with the technological advancements. In Malaysia, medical sector is one of the major sector and Malaysia reputed as one of the most preferred medical tourism destinations with modern private healthcare facilities and highly efficient medical professionals. As such, the integration of AI into Malaysia’s healthcare sector plays a vital role in its continued development. However, the existing body of knowledge on AI primarily focuses on exploring the innovative solutions and applications, system developments and models that have been developed. Hence, there is a need to focus on the AI adoption towards the healthcare practitioners that benefits the AI developers to enhance the development of AI in medical sector. Therefore, this study proposed the research framework that combines technology adoption theories based on Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), Unified Theory of Use and Acceptance of Technology (UTAUT) and Diffusion of Innovation (DOI). Additionally, this study introduces a novel concept of “User-AI Orientation” to better understand the factors influencing adoption. This preliminary research involved 60 healthcare practitioners and aims to validate the proposed framework while providing insights that can support both AI adoption and practical application in the healthcare sector.
