Abstract

Although usability is a basic feature of software systems, many still struggle to be sufficiently user-friendly. A well-designed user interface (UI) is essential to improving the e-learning experience and guaranteeing successful learning results. A popular method for creating e-learning interfaces that put usability first and cater to user needs is User-Centered Design (UCD). The use of UCD in e-learning UI design is examined in this systematic review, which also analyzes the techniques used and how they affect usability. Nineteen of the 146 reviewed studies were deemed pertinent for further examination. According to the findings, UCD has been applied in a variety of ways, with varying degrees of user involvement in each project. Questionnaires, interviews, high-fidelity prototyping, and usability testing are the most widely used techniques. Notably, usability results were better for projects that involved users at several stages of the design process. This review emphasizes how crucial it is to include subject matter experts (SMEs) and learners in the design process in order to produce e-learning systems that are easier to use and more efficient. The results offer helpful insights for enhancing UCD practices in e-learning as well as important direction for further study and advancement in this area.
