Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) introduced by the United Nations (UN) that called 2030 agenda to direct organisations toward sustainable industrial and environmental practices. In this regard, organisations urged to implement management and leadership techniques that enhance environmental performance and promote global environmental sustainability goals. In this regard, the aim of the research was to analyse the influence of Green Transformational Leadership (GTL) on Green Performance (GP) as well as the role of Integrative Conflict Management (ICM) style as a mediator in the pharmaceutical industry of Pakistan. A structured survey was distributed among 1200 pharmaceutical workers of Islamabad and Lahore but only 389 (32%) of the participants filled the questionnaire completely. The data were analysed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) using SmartPLS 4. To ensure theoretical rigor, the study had a conceptual model that integrated the Social Exchange Theory (SET), the Natural Resource-Based View (NRBV), and Conflict Transformation Theory (CTT) for selection of constructs and formulation of hypothesis. The results indicate that GTL is positively and significantly related with GP and confirming that GTL is an effective predictor of green performance. In addition, ICM found to play a partial mediator in the relationship between GTL and GP, which fill a literature gap and make a unique theoretical contribution. The results also highlight strategies of resolving conflicts that both directly and indirectly contribute towards green performance and promote sustainable organizational practices. In line with this, the present study will assist in formulating organizational objectives, organizational policy, and operational procedures through aligning SDG-related strategies with preferred environmental performance improvements and ecological impact reduction via the combined application of GTL and ICM.
