Abstract

This study maps the intellectual structure and evolutionary dynamics of smart education research from the perspective of digital transformation and digital service systems. To address the fragmentation of smart education research across education, computer science, information systems, and management, the study proposes a Digital-Transformation-Driven Dynamic Topic Graph (DT-DTG) framework that integrates semantic similarity with bibliographic coupling to support coherent topic discovery and longitudinal trend tracking. Using a bibliometric visual analytics approach, the framework identifies publication growth, collaboration structures, major thematic clusters, and emerging research frontiers in smart education. The findings indicate accelerating publication growth, a core–periphery international collaboration structure, and a clear thematic transition from online and blended learning toward analytics-driven, AI-enabled, and governance-oriented smart education research. Immersive learning and generative AI emerge as the most recent frontiers. Comparative evaluation further shows that DT-DTG improves topic coherence, diversity, and temporal stability relative to conventional text-based topic models. By conceptualizing smart education as an evolving digital service system, this study contributes to the literature at the intersection of informatics, service science, and digital transformation, and provides a structured analytical framework for tracking how intelligent educational services are designed, governed, and scaled over time.
