Abstract
The increasing integration of electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy sources (RES) into contemporary micro-grid has resulted in a more complex situation for distribution system planners and operators. This change necessitates tackling complex operational and financial issues. Operators specifically need to handle the increased reliance on RES and the growing demand for EVs. The aim of this paper is to present an optimal planning methodology that uses the Lyrebird Optimisation Algorithm (LOA) to address issues related to the level of integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and the strategic placement of EV charging stations. These difficulties include increased system costs, voltage fluctuations, thermal loading, and power loss. LOA is designed to be strategically placed in conjunction with the deployment of hybrid RES across several microgrids, in order to accommodate EV charging stations with controllable charging capabilities. To validate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm, the simulation results are compared with various optimisation techniques. The results show that using LOA instead of other optimisation algorithms reduces voltage deviation by 66.45%, cumulative energy undelivered by 49.63%, and total cost by 32.90%. This planning methodology includes an innovative charging strategy that lowers overall system costs while improving power quality significantly
