Abstract

The Metamaterial Absorber (MMA) is a multifunctional material employed in diverse applications such as thermal detection, sound absorption, and sensor applications. This article introduces a modified square split-ring resonator MMA that has been specifically designed for sensing applications in the S-band frequency range. The MMA structure fabricated on an FR-4 substrate demonstrates complete absorption at S-frequency bands of 3.03 GHz and 3.43 GHz, exhibiting a maximum absorption of 99.99%. The structure exhibits an average absorption bandwidth of 98.98%. The structure's characteristics are examined in the transverse electromagnetic mode (TEM), and its effectiveness as a permittivity sensor is verified. Overall, the proposed MMA demonstrates promise as a suitable candidate for S-band perfect absorber and sensing applications, as indicated by comparison with recent studies.
