Abstract

This research delves into the question of youths’ support towards the proposed Generational End Game (GEG) Policy. Specifically, the study investigates factors influencing Generation Z's inclination to endorse Malaysia's GEG Policy, which aimed to curtail smoking rates by prohibiting the sale of tobacco-related products to individuals born after January 1, 2007. The policy was motivated by the increasing smoking-related health issues and resulting economic repercussions. Thus, this study investigates how factors such as awareness, health consciousness, attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control influence Generation Z's backing of the GEG Policy. As Generation Z emerges as a pivotal market segment, the study suggests the significance of understanding their perspectives on tobacco control policies. The research employs established theoretical frameworks to shed light on the determinants that influence Generation Z's stance on the proposed policy. This study would benefit the Malaysian government, Generation Z tobacco users, and future researchers, providing actionable insights for policy refinement and future studies. The research scope centres on Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, within the Malaysian context. Employing a Google Form survey, quantitative measurement is employed to analyze data, with findings contributing to assessing hypotheses related to Generation Z's support for the GEG Policy. This exploratory study seeks to contribute valuable insights for shaping effective tobacco control policies in Malaysia and beyond.
