Abstract
This paper presents the development and experimental validation of an optical color sensing system utilizing a probe-type coupler integrated with Plastic Optical Fiber (POF). The proposed system is designed to address limitations associated with conventional RGB-based electronic sensors, including constrained color sensitivity and susceptibility to thermal and electromagnetic interference. By employing total internal reflection within the POF and enhancing optical interaction through a probe-like coupling region, the system enables accurate and passive spectral discrimination across a range of visible wavelengths. Spectral measurements were conducted using a broadband light source and high-resolution spectrometer, with data acquisition and analysis performed via Avasoft software. Distinct spectral peaks corresponding to primary and secondary colors were consistently identified across repeated trials, demonstrating reliable wavelength selectivity and high measurement precision. The system exhibited stable peak responses with minimal spectral noise, confirming its repeatability and effectiveness in color-specific sensing tasks. The results validate the potential of the POF-based sensing architecture for real-time, non-electrical color detection in environments where conventional sensors may be inadequate.
