Abstract
Metal halide perovskite (MHP)-based photovoltaics have achieved remarkable power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) approaching 27%, demonstrating significant potential for integration into flexible perovskite solar cells (f-PSCs). These f-PSCs are lightweight, portable, and capable of delivering high power outputs, and are compatible with diverse device architectures, making them highly promising as power sources for next-generation flexible electronics, wearable technologies and aerospace systems. Their unique attrributes enable applications in emerging technologies such as electronic skin (e-skin) and self-powered smart textiles. However, f-PSCs still face critical challenges, including the inherent brittleness of perovskite materials and uncontrolled crystallization on flexible substrates, which hinder mechanical durability and device performance. In this review, we critically examine the suitability of MHPs for flexible photovoltaics. We then highlight recent breakthroughs in state-of-the-art f-PSCs, focusing on PCE enhancement and progress in interfacial engineering, material selection, and fabrication techniques. Finally, we provide a forward-looking perspective on emerging tandem architectures and sustainable material strategies that could accelerate the commercialization of f-PSCs for real-world applications.
