Abstract

The study seeks to examine the barriers related to the acceptance and possession of electric motorcycles among urban customers in Malaysia and offer insights into the prospective market opportunities for electric motorcycles in the nation. Malaysia's dedication to sustainable development is demonstrated by programmes such as the National Energy Transition Roadmap. In order to effectively cut carbon emissions and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, it is vital that the transportation industry make the transition towards electrification for the transportation sector. Although motorcyclists make up a significant fraction of vehicles on Malaysian roadways, the adoption of electric bikes is still limited, particularly in metropolitan areas. This is especially true in the case of electric motorcycles. Through the use of a cross-sectional survey design, the research endeavours to investigate the complex factors that influence the decisions of consumers regarding the adoption of electric motorcycles. The adoption intentions of individuals are positively influenced by attitudes, subjective norms, and compatibility. On the other hand, perceived usefulness and simplicity of use do not have a substantial impact on adoption intentions. It is clear from this that there is a requirement for additional research and intervention in these areas. These findings enhance our theoretical comprehension and can guide future research and policy endeavours aimed at advancing sustainable mobility alternatives in Malaysia and other regions.
