Abstract

In this paper, a compact transparent antenna featuring a new TE-shaped indium tin oxide (ITO) radiating patch, an ITO ground plane, and a plexiglass substrate has been designed for 5G transparent communication. A transparent conductor, utilizing a thin film of ITO instead of a traditional copper sheet, is selected for its superior performance as a transparent antenna. The new antenna, composed of a TE-shaped ITO radiating patch and an ITO ground plane with a plexiglass substrate, achieves wideband performance. The antenna’s overall dimensions are 1.48 × 1.35 × 0.5 mm³, maintaining 85% transparency. The antenna operates over a reflection coefficient range of 65.3 GHz to 68.7 GHz at S11<-10 dB (bandwidth). A gain above 5.5 dBi at the entire operating frequency with a stable radiation pattern is observed. The proposed antenna demonstrates good radiation characteristics, making it well-suited for various applications in vehicular communication and other scenarios.
