Abstract

In year 2023, Malaysia recorded highest number of accidents with 598,635 cases and stated 12,417 fatalities. This means a daily average 34 people killed due to traffic accident in the country. This study aims to determine traffic characteristic at the selected unsignalized intersection (UI) focusing on three different environments: UI environment with channelization infrastructure that facilitates the right-turn motor vehicle from minor road onto mainstream and existing of traffic signal close to UI2, UI environment without channelization infrastructure and only has traffic signal location adjacent to UI9, and UI10 in which environment without both infrastructures. Consequently, traffic volume, right turn maneuver and traffic conflict have been carried out at 11 unsignalized intersection based on blackspot location. The analysis shows that UI with safety infrastructure is safer for right turn motor vehicle (RMV) compared to UI without any assist from safety infrastructure.
