Broadly tunable whispering gallery mode (WGM) microbottle resonators (MBRs) are demonstrated with Q-factor in excess of 10 5 . Dense and complex transmission spectra of the solid MBRs were simplified substantially by using a “shallow” MBR profile and microtaper excitation fibers with 10-μm waist diameter. Mechanical tuning by strain over full azimuthal free spectral range (FSR) is demonstrated.
