Abstract

In recent years we have seen the dramatic growth of courses offered by numerous universities and colleges through distance learning. However, environment in distance learning courses that are laboratory-based such as electronics engineering presented new challenges in their course delivery. Experiments that are normally conducted in a real laboratory will now need to be conducted online, like lectures and tutorials. This work will look at the difficulties and intricacies of circumventing this shortcoming found in the distance learning environment and offers a pragmatic solution through the implementation of a low-cost remote access electronics laboratory. The remote access electronics laboratory is an infrastructure to deliver laboratory experiments through the Internet. The laboratory setup consists of a set of test instruments, a sample experiment module, a microcontroller-based hardware module and an Internet web server.
