Abstract

Spectrum and power are scarce radio resources in cellular networks that must be prudently and fairly utilised to accommodate the number of subscribers which are skyrocketing at an unprecedented rate. Recently, orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) has emerged as a promising paradigm that potentially enhances spectral and energy efficiency through dynamic subcarrier and power allocation (SPA). Thus, this research work is to develop various radio resource management (RRM) schemes to provide spectrally- and energy-efficient solutions for different OFDMA-based cellular networks. Conventionally, the study of RRM problems using analytical tools has met with limited success due to unpredictable behaviours of network users and dynamic networking natures. Hence, game theory is entrusted here to solve spectrum scarcity in various OFDMA systems because this tool has been proven efficient in forecasting the behavioural outcomes resulted from complex interactions among rational network users.
