Abstract

In this research, the potential of cryogenic effect on friction and wear behaviour of newly developed titanium alloy TI-5AI-4V-0.6Mo-0.4Fe sliding against tungsten carbide was investigated and compared with conventional titanium alloy TI-6AI-4V. Dry and cryogenic tribo tests using pin-on-disc configuration were conducted under different operating conditions. In the cryogenic tribo tests, liquid nitrogen (LN2) was injected to the sliding interface between titanium alloy and tungsten carbide.
