Abstract

The displacement approach is most commonly used in finite element analysis for solid mechanics. • However, displacement-based finite elements are known to exhibit shear locking phenomena. Also, fine meshes are needed for accuracy. • Hence, the strain-based finite element method was introduced to improve the displacement approach. • The research objectives include developing a new conforming strain-based triangular membrane element and diagnosing singular transformation matrices.
