Abstract

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) matrix has been reinforced with cellulose nanofiber extracted from agriculture waste material known as jute fiber (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 wt.%) through melt compounding method. A systematic study was performed to study the water absorption, microstructure, thermal, hardness and tensile properties of the neat TPU and fabricated TPU/Jute CNF Nanocomposites. It is found that TPU nanocomposites with 4wt% of Jute CNFs shows the optimum properties as compared to others. Due to the excellent properties exhibit, the TPU nanocomposites with 4wt% of Jute CNFs was reinforced in geopolymer concrete with different composition (3, 6 and 9wt%) and curing temperature (ambient, 60, 100 and 140◦C). Geopolymer concrete with 6wt% of TPU nanocomposites and cured at 100◦C exhibit excellent properties and able to meet the requirement of construction industry.
