Nevertheless, the increasing complexity and challenges of business sustainability have led to the development and emergence of a leadership model known as “sustainable leadership (SL)” or alternatively “Sustainability leadership (SL)”. SL can be defined as “who takes responsibility for understanding and acting on sustainability challenges, whether or not they hold formal leadership positions. They lead “with”, rather than “over” others, in ways that account for the long-term viability of complex, interconnected living system.” SL study is still in the stage of infancy started in western countries and a limited study in the context of the eastern countries especially in Malaysia. Hence, there is a need to extend the literature in this domain. This research aims to develop a SL framework model examines how SL is mediated by Knowledge Sharing (KS) eventually drive to and impact on BS in the intensively changing business environment in Malaysia context. Purpose - The purpose of study the mediation effect of KS in between SL and BS is grounded on the increasing importance of Knowledge sharing (KS) in the quest of sustainability. The effective and efficient knowledge and insights generated enable organizations acquire and apply the required knowledge more quickly and more effectively, providing a base for sustainable competitive advantage. A leader plays a vital role in knowledge management as they are indicators of knowledge creation process in resolving organization issues, maintaining external sustainability and improving internal operational and performances. Researches examining the relationship between leadership and knowledge sharing have become of interest to a substantial number of academics and practitioners of this field. The previous empirical research revealed a positive relationship between transformational leadership and organizational performance and indicated that transformational leadership play a key role in facilitating the knowledge sharing. Unfortunately, there is limited research examine the mediating effect of knowledge sharing in the relationship between SL and BS. In this research will test to what extent has knowledge sharing mediating SL and BS. This research focuses on testing the SL-KS-BS model using hypotheses of RO1, examine the relationship between sustainable leadership and business sustainability; RO2, investigate the relationship between sustainable leadership and knowledge sharing and RO3, examine the mediation effect of knowledge sharing in between sustainable leadership and business sustainability in Malaysia context. Design/methodology/approach - The hypothesized model will be tested using data to be collected from quantitative survey approach. Questionnaires will be distributed to 392 managers of all levels in small and medium sized companies located in Selangor and Klang Valley territories. The data relating to Sustainable leadership will be categorized as an independent variable, knowledge sharing as a mediator variable and business sustainability as a dependent variable in the test analysis. The results will be tested using structural equation Modelling (PLS-SME) and goodness-of-fit to testify the SL model and will provide an enhancing management practices model improvising organization leader to be resilient to the environmental shock for attaining business sustainability. Findings/Expected Contributions - The expected research contributes to creating a continuously evolving of SL model and conceptual framework to develop a compressive set of management practices criterion of SL of which appropriate for most of the organization in all sectors.
