Abstract

Visually impaired person has a hard time switching electrical appliances, and wall-mounted electrical power switches are particularly problematic for them. As a result, assistive equipment is essential for visually impaired person to safely operate common electrical appliances. This article proposed a voice control smart home electrical appliances module for visually impaired person. There are two sections to this system: voice remote control and electrical appliances system. Voice recognition module V3 was utilized in the voice remote control to allow visually impaired person to speak orders to manage their household electrical appliances. A small speaker was also included in the voice remote control to provide audible feedback and guarantee that the right home electrical appliances were triggered. The signal from the voice remote control was wirelessly transmitted to the electrical appliances system using Wi-Fi technology. The signal received from the voice remote control portion is sent to the microcontroller in the electrical appliances system part, which then triggers the required home electrical appliances. The developed prototype was tested with visually challenged participants, and 79.17% of those who were tested agreed or strongly agreed that they would utilize this voice activation system to control their electrical appliances in their home.
