Abstract

Green volunteering activities, where volunteers commit to environmental protection and conservation that could adequately confront the climate crisis if scaled up rapidly (Flattery, 2020), has received vast attention lately. Similarly, the engagement of young adults in volunteering exercises is under the spotlight recently. Despite the enthusiasm in youth-environment interactions, the intersection of "youth" and "green volunteering" has received little consideration. Uncertainty in the reasons behind performing volunteering activities may have significant consequences for promoting efforts in volunteerism. Purpose – The ultimate target of this research is to understand the current state of youth commitment to green volunteerism and study the potential motivating factors and challenges that might impact said exercises. This research aims to investigate the perspectives, expectations, experiences and behaviours of Malaysian youth in volunteering, specifically green volunteering.
