Abstract

Commercial open-source software (COSS) companies attract researchers’ and practitioners’ attention because of their unique capabilities to provide high-quality software products at an affordable price to individuals, small businesses, private, and public institutions. However, despite some prominent COSS companies enjoying huge success, many COSS companies are struggling. Moreover, the unavailability of success model and lack of standard of measurement to evaluate the success of these companies is worrisome. In addition, even though, previous findings in similar industries underscoring the importance of intellectual capital and software quality for companies to succeed, a thorough review of literature shows that both intellectual capital and software quality are under-researched in COSS company context. Purpose: - the aim of the study is to assess the direct relationships between intellectual capital components (i.e., relational capital, structural capital, and human capital), software quality, and COSS company success. In addition to testing the mediating role of software quality.
