Abstract

This paper presents a Thulium (Tm) doped fiber amplifier operating in 1800nm region. We demonstrated a small and compact footprint of optical amplifier architecture with only 20cm length gain fiber. Ytteria nano-particles functioning as a modifier allows high Tm concentration thus increase Tm solubility in optical fiber. A wide amplification window of 100nm is obtained with maximum gain up to 24.2 dB and noise figure (NF) as low as 5.5 dB.
