Abstract

This project describes the development of virtual reality(VR) for rehabilitation purpose. The main objective is to develop virtual reality applications for post-stroke rehabilitation. The rehabilitation training involves motor and balance rehabilitation. There are two applications that have been developed in this project to serve motor dysfunction and balance impairment. The main technology employed in this project is immersive virtual reality. The use of VR headset enables an individual to expose the three dimensional virtual environment. Then, the immersive virtual reality is capable to offer mirror therapy in post-stroke rehabilitation and thus aids in recovery. With the integration of leap motion sensor and kinect sensor, the individual is allowed to interact with the virtual world. This project proves that virtual reality is able to improve the performance of physical rehabilitation training.
