Abstract

The proposed method uses second-order derivatives to derive more information from the gray values of the pixels in a scanning electron microscope image. It represents this information as a histogram of second-order values, which expresses the variation in pixel values caused by image details and noise. The method uses the histogram as the basis for the targeting of pixels for filtering and reallocation to restore the image. The method controls the number of target pixels to minimize blurring of edges by imposing a Laplace curve on the histogram and using it together with other equations to select pixels based on the differences between their second-order derivatives and those of their neighbours
