Abstract

This research has been undertaken to develop tools for easy and effective access to image databases. Based on an extensive investigation of boundary-based shape representation and description methods,a novel method named block-based shape representation (BSR) is proposed in this thesis as a means to overcome some limitations of existing methods. A multiple shape descriptors framework is also proposed in this thesis.
